Chihuahuas are the smallest dogs in the world. They have a domed skull and soft spot on the top of the head where the bones have not joined. This is known as ‘Molera’. They have large prick ears and short and pointed muzzles. Their eyes are round and large. They are slightly longer than they are tall and have a longish tail that is carried up or over the back. There are two coat varieties. One is smooth and short. The other is long and soft with fringed ear and legs.

The average lifespan of a Chihuahua is around 14 to 20 years, although some have been known to live as long as 30 years. They are generally healthy dogs, but like all breeds, they are susceptible to certain health conditions. These include hypoglycemia, slipped stifles, patellar luxation, and tracheal collapse.

Chihuahuas are intelligent and loving dogs that make great companions. They are loyal and protective of their family and make excellent watchdogs. They are also relatively easy to train and are good for apartment living.

The Chihuahua loves to run and play and can usually get enough exercise in a very small space. Simply trotting around following their people is usually enough exercise for this happy breed. Short, slow walks will keep your dog in good weight and condition. Avoid overexerting the Chihuahua. Use paw balm daily to protect their feet. If your dog is panting and working hard to keep up, it’s time to pick them up and carry them home. Paw Balm

If you are thinking of adding a Chihuahua to your family, be sure to do your research and find a reputable breeder. Make sure you are prepared to handle a small dog with a big personality!
